I want to talk to you today about working with portals. Of course, you don’t need to believe in actual interdimensional portals (as in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Stargate SG1, Star Trek, The Witcher), but be at least open to the fact that certain places have powerful feelings and energies associated with them. Some good, some not.
Findhorn, Chartres, Glastonbury – these are just a few of many places I have lived or visited that have strong spirits of place. They have a tangible feeling of power associated with them and exciting histories. They are locations where magic happens, where personal breakthroughs (and breakdowns) occur, where strange occurrences are frequent, and if all else fails, you will undoubtedly be able to find a cafe for a great vegetarian lunch.

Many people claim these places (and many other sacred sites) contain portals – doorways or specific sites where the boundaries between this world and others are thin.
Portals may not be places. Computing devices (particularly mobile devices) act as portals to many different worlds. Indeed, you can physically stand in one world while meaningfully interacting with several others. Depending on your degree of openness, skills in altering consciousness, etc., you can be a portal to new states of awareness and other realities. I will talk about these types of portals in other posts, but for now, I want to focus on actual interdimensional portals, special (often sacred) physical locations. (Incidentally, my PhD explored portals. Have a read if you are interested, one of my examiners said it was a page-turner:-))
Read on for some basic information on working with portals.

So here’s what you do
Be open to discovering a portal that is of potential benefit to you or others (with an energy that will be positive and constructive to be around). But, on the other hand, don’t be searching out portals that are not for your higher good. Believe me.
Look for signs and signals to lead you somewhere OR let the intention go and wait to chance upon a location. You can ask wise people in your local area if they know of power spots.
If you happen upon a spot or find a location, the first question is if you have permission to be there. Even if you were led to a place, you might need to visit several times before being allowed deeper access. That has happened to me. And being told it’s ‘ok’ by another person is not enough, nor is assuming it’s ok because there are no physical signs saying no (or no signs other humans have been there).
If the spirits of the place decide to let you in, you’ll feel a shift of some sort and a blocking feeling if you are told no. (Note with indigenous sites, trespassing through ignorance is common. So always assume indigenous people know their sacred sites and guard them, even if there isn’t official government signage around!)
Once you find a location and are allowed in, protect yourself appropriately from the energies in whatever way you usually do while also being open-hearted and adopting a beginner’s mind. Tune in to the powers of the site and attempt to bring your breath, your body and mind into sync – in the same way, you would if you are meeting somebody for the first time. Treat the process as the first meeting with a potential friend (or respected elder), not as a field excursion you can document on Instagram.
Fill yourself with humility and be open to receiving knowledge, healing or other gifts there at the time or perhaps in the days and weeks ahead.
You should send loving-kindness, light or other energies in return. Don’t just bring alcohol or food because you read that in a book. That may not be culturally appropriate and attract weird vermin. Instead, ask what is needed and, if you haven’t got it there and then, bring it back later. And make sure you do!
Portal work can boost healing, provide mental insight and clarity, provide knowledge or help you reconnect to yourself and your community. For mentoring in this area, sign up for my spiritual mentoring course or subscribe to my list so I can let you know when my portal course will be available in the next few months. For now, happy portal hunting and be careful! You never know what (or who) you may come across on your journey.
